SOUTH AFRICA

Day Trips

Pilanesberg Game Reserve

The Park ranks among the largest of the national parks in South Africa (it is in fact the fourth largest park) and covers an area of 55 000 hectare. It also has the bonus of being a non-malaria area and is home to the big 5. The beauty of Pilanesberg is reflected in a large central lake, the Mankwe Dam. Over time, wind and water have carved a spectacular landscape with rocky outcrops, open grasslands, wooded valleys and thickets.

The Elephant Sanctuary

The Elephant Sanctuary, nestled in pristine unspoilt bush, is the home of five African elephants: Maroela, Mosadi, Khumba, Jabu & Thandi.
Elephants are highly intelligent and delightful and you will discover a different character, personality and temperament within each one. The guides will welcome you and share interesting facts about the bush & our wonderful elephants.

De Wildt Cheetah Centre

The De Wildt Cheetah Centre was established in 1971 with the aim of breeding endangered species. While the cheetah project was the base from which the Centre launched its conservation ethic, it soon widened to include other rare and endangered animal species such as wild dog, brown hyaena, serval, suni antelope, blue and red duiker, bontebok, riverine rabbit and vultures - including the very rare Egyptian vulture.

Lion Park half day Tour

The Lion Park offers terrific close-up views and other experiences with many lions, as well as rare white lions. Other large predators at The Lion Park include cheetahs, brown and spotted hyaenas, wild dogs, caracals and jackals. Superb filming opportunities are also offered.

(Sunday tours include a traditional braai buffet lunch)

Wildside Tent Camp: Experience a truly magnificent night in the wild.  The semi-luxurious tents sleep four comfortably and offer the camping enthusiast a chance to enjoy a self catered braai under African Sky.

Fall asleep to the sounds of lions roaring and hyenas laughing.  An unforgettable experience. (POA)

Gold Reef City

Gold and the History of Johannesburg are intertwined. The discovery of gold in the late 1890's led to a gold rush by prospectors from all over the world to the area now known as Johannesburg in the province of Gauteng. Gold Reef City reflects the history of the discovery of Gold and style of life to those who worked on the mines. The center of the City is Shaft No 14 which was started in 1887 and only closed as a working mine in 1971.This mine now offers escorted underground tours which show mining techniques of the early 1900's and those of today and on surface the actual pouring of Gold can be seen.

Lesedi Cultural Village

GUESTS are welcomed in true African style by the families of Lesedi. Next on the itinerary is a multi-media presentation in the theatre, setting out the origins and history of the African people up to the present day. After singing, dancing and refreshments, it’s time to browse in the living craft market, where vibrant Ndebele murals decorate the walls and courtyards....
As the night closes in, you’ll hear African legends told by a master storyteller in the great oral tradition.
This creates the mood for the feast of traditional dishes from around the African continent.

Apartheid Museum

This extraordinarily powerful museum has already become the city's leading tourist attraction, an obligatory stop for visitors and residents alike. The Museum, with its large blown-up photographs, metal cages and numerous monitors recording continuous replays of apartheid scenes set in a double volume ceiling, concrete and red brick walls and grey concrete floor, is next to the Gold Reef City Casino, five kilometres south of the city centre
